2011 NEW YEAR'S EVE RESULTS HERE.

All runners participating in both races will be eligible for the "Double Finisher" medal, making it possible to form the Brazen New Year "Mega-Medal"!

SAY GOODBYE TO 2011 WITH A 5K, 10K OR HALF MARATHON!

Whether it's your first trail run or you're looking to log that 1,000th mile before the clock strikes midnight, Lake Chabot is where the party is going to be!

Come enjoy the morning of New Year's Eve at the beautiful Lake Chabot Marina in Castro Valley for the scenic 5K, 10K or half marathon.

And if that's not enough New Year running for you, come back the next day run another race! Learn about the New Year's Day race here.

For the more adventurous, you can run the "Brazen New Year Marathon" (= two half marathons, one on 12/31 and one on 1/1) and then brag to your friends: "It took me two years to finish that marathon"! The half marathon runners will run the same course both days, but in different directions each day.

All courses include rolling, but mostly very runnable hills. Because there is always a chance of rain before and (hopefully not) during the race, the courses chosen are generally "wet weather" friendly. This means the 5K will be entirely on paved trails around the lake. The 10K course is roughly 50% on paved trails and 50% on dirt trails. The half marathon is approximately 30% on paved trails 70% on dirt trails.

All courses are subject to possible change due to severe weather or the park's closing of trails.

So whether you are an experienced trail runner or a first-timer ready to get your feet dirty, you should thoroughly enjoy these races. Hikers/walkers are always welcome!

All runners will receive custom finisher medals and custom shirts (cotton and tech shirts available). More info on shirts/awards page.

Age group awards will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in 5 year categories (less for the younger ages).

Start times will be: 8:30am for the Half Marathon, 8:55am for the 10K and 9:05am for the 5K.

All races will be professionally timed.

Shirts are guaranteed to those who sign up by 12/18. We will order extras, but cannot guarantee size, so we recommend early registration.

About Lake Chabot

Lake Chabot Reservoir was built in 1874-75 as a primary source of water for the East Bay. The 315 acre lake was closed to recreation for 91 years until legislation opened it up in the 1960s. Today the lake serves as a standby emergency water supply and is a favorite of local fisherman looking for trout, catfish, bass and other fish.
