Thanksgiving Morning 10K/5K/"Little Turkeys Race"
Point Pinole Regional Shoreline
Update 11/27: Thank you to all participants, volunteers, spectators and to the phenomenal Point Pinole Regional Shoreline staff for helping this event be a success. We hope those who came out to the race had as much fun as we did putting it on! Results are now up and can be seen here. Photos will be uploaded over the next several days and will be able to be found here.
Start your Thanksgiving off right with a run around one of the East Bay's most beautiful parks!
Point Pinole Regional Shoreline is home to more than 100 bird species, but none is more elusive than the fabled Nitro Turkey. A remnant from the park's history as a dynamite factory, Nitro Turkeys (also known as Gobblus nitrum) were once found in abundance along the park's Nitro Trail.
Now appearing only on Thanksgiving Day, Nitro Turkey is always eager to promote healthy runs on the trails and to test his own running skills against other "little turkeys"!
The "Little Turkeys Run" (8:45am) will be a 100 yard dash and is free for all children 10 and under whose parents are registered to run the 5K/10K. All children participating will receive special medals at the finish of their race. They will be racing against the Nitro Turkey who has yet to win a race due to his sensitive feet (and the utter lack of shoes in size 33 extra, extra, extra wide).
The 5K and 10K will begin at 9:00. Both are loop courses. The 5K is entirely on fire trails. The 10K has one small section (approximately 1/2 mile) on a paved trail. Both courses offer relatively easy terrain (for a trail run) and will have spectacular views of the bay. On a clear day you can see about 5 bridges and 6 counties!
Thanksgiving-themed costumes (for children and adults) are highly encouraged!!!
For children waiting for family and friends to finish, there is a playground besides the start/finish area. Nitro Turkey has promised to share with the children.
